Here are the winning teams of last year’s HealthTech Next Generation!

First prize: ANPI

The idea of the ANPI team came after Bogdan Necula noticed that the elderly population cannot always notify those close to them if they have acute health problems. On the occasion of the competition organized by SAS Unitbv in November, the initial team had the opportunity to coagulate a multidisciplinary team of students eager to develop and implement a solution to the previously open problem. Thus, they designed a bracelet (worn by the elderly) equipped with a series of sensors for monitoring various vital functions and connected via GSM to a smartphone application for monitoring purposes. The ultimate goal is to shorten the time from the acute event to receiving treatment, thus lowering the rate of medical complications and increasing the survival of loved ones. The ANPI team consists of 5 students from Transilvania University of Brașov: Morariu Alexandru (Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science), Vărzaru Maria (Faculty of Economics and Business Administration), Radu Marian (Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering), Hodivoianu Cosmin faculty of electrical engineering and computer science) and Necula Bogdan (faculty of medicine). Each person in the team covers a much-needed area of knowledge in order to see the ANPI project materialized.

Subsequently, the ANPI project participated in the Hackathon with the theme of emergency medicine where it approached challenge no. 6 (The old man alone). Through teamwork the team managed to win the first prize. The 3 competitions in which they participated, represented an opportunity to refine the project and to  try to obtain a final product.

Second prize: MedVision

MedVision started with a simple question: “You own the data, why not help research and earn from it?”.

From this, an entire platform arose, starting with the most important application of all: Health Wallet. MedVision Health Wallet is the health wallet of the future that helps patients monetize their medical data. They can opt-in to sell their anonymized data through the MedVision Databank. The Databank is a product for companies doing research on this type of data (pharmaceuticals, universities, research institutes etc) where they can bid and buy data offered by our Health Wallet holders. We also offer the MedVision Viewer for clinics to help doctors search through the patient’s data using advanced search functionalities giving them a broader view of the patient’s health and medical history.

Robert Raicu: is a Software Engineer at NI (National Instruments) and a tech leader for a team of 6 people. He has a master’s degree in Software Engineering and a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from UBB, he is passionate about technology and wants to make MedVision a successful start-up.

Carmen Florentina Raicu: she is a doctoral student at Babes-Bolyai University, at the Doctoral School in Population Studies and History of Minorities, a trained financier with an active EMBA.

Matei Raicu Sebastian: studies business development management in English at the Faculty of Economics and Business Management. In recent years he has dedicated his time to study digital marketing, working as a freelancer marketing specialist at his own company.

Third prize: Doctor QR

Doctor QR is the mobile application that connects doctors, pharmacists and patients: doctors can study the situation of their patients, and patients can see the treatments that the specialists have recommended and details about them. The connection between doctors and patients is ensured by scanning a QR code at the time of the first consultation, hence the name of the application. The recommended treatments can be introduced in the application by a medical professional in 3 ways: manually, by voice recording or by scanning the prescription. Patients will be able to enter dietary supplements and check their interactions, and doctors will be warned about possible drug interactions between the recommended substances and those that a patient is already consuming at the time of prescribing the new treatment.

The team consists of technical people, but also pharmacists who want to help the Romanian medical system. The team members met a few months ago during the match-making of the Hack4Health hackathon, where they managed to win one of the big prizes.

The participating teams will be able to apply in 2022 at the programs offered in https://eithealth.eu/what-we-do/eit-health-accelerator-programmes/ and will benefit from FreshBlood HealthTech mentoring.

Health innovation is a complex field, in which passion, resources, support, dedication are a must. It all starts with the first step, the decision and the courage to try to implement an idea that innovates in the field of health.
